Guest Training with Martin Tait, Dervish Agility

Each session will be split into 2 halves. The first half of each session will be based on a specific skill criteria i.e. pull throughs, snakes, distance work, obstacle discrimination with each session taking a different focus. The second half will be based around course analysis, decision making and will use electronic timing to help analyse the best route and to help determine areas of weakness for development, any identified issues will then be added to the 2012 training plan

Jumping Grid Workshops

Why teach jumping?
Even on an agility course, jumps make up the majority of equipment that our dogs have to negotiate. However honing the skills required for jumping are often neglected, and it’s quite common to see handlers having problems with their dog running under jumps and knocking poles both in training and competition. Dogs that have good jumping skills will run more smoothly, efficiently and decisively, therefore be faster and less prone to injury.

What will it cover?
We will be working through Susan Salo’s excellent foundation jumping methodology – mastering the components of jumping; path, distance, appropriate takeoff point, weight transfer, angle of elevation and height. The workshop will also cover the importance of conditioning; warming up at the beginning and cooling off at the end of sessions.

Who can take part?
This workshop is suitable for dogs over 1 year of age, dogs that have never jumped before, dogs that are doing agility but have never been trained to jump, dogs rehabilitating after injury and older dogs that have retired from agility but still want a job to do.
